Short Course 1

Title: Microstructural Modeling of Rock Fracture: Bonded-Particle Modeling with PFC and Bonded-Block Modeling with 3DEC
Instructor: David Potyondy and Tryana Garza-Cruz, Itasca Consulting Group, Inc.
Venue: The Westin Seattle
Date: Sunday, 17 June 2018; 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Cost:  $200 Includes complete course materials

Bonded-Particle Modeling and Bonded-Block Modeling are the focus of this short course. The course will describe the methodology by which a synthetic rock is constructed, assigned properties, and then subjected to boundary conditions. The methodology includes a calibration process in which the model microproperties are chosen to match a relevant set of macroproperties. The course combines lectures with hands-on model manipulation.
